Essentially Google has launched the Android Developer Challenge, which will provide $10 million in awards -- no strings attached -- for great mobile apps built on the Android platform. The challenge is broken into to 2 phases. In the first phase, the 50 most promising entries received by March 3 will each receive a $25,000 award to fund further development. Those selected will then be eligible for even greater recognition via ten $275,000 awards and ten $100,000 awards. Phase 2 of the challenge happens mid-late next year after the android software starts showing up on cellphones.

Here is the website for more info, GOOD LUCK - go make some apps and make some money$$$

http://code.google.com/android/adc.html

Show Notes

You all make this show exciting, informative and worthwhile. She was found guilty and has to pay $222,000 in fines to the RIAA. She is appealing the judgement. It's an Intel print ad that has the blogsphere weighing in on all types of opinions. So much so that even Intel posted an apologetic comment (go here to read it Intel posts an apologetic comment. ) Which is commendable! Most companies (i can name a few) that have been in this situation attempt to sweep it under the rug. I commend Intel for coming forward, being transparent about the incident and responding quickly.

I even offered them a chance to come on my radio program(s) to discuss the challenges, the changes and how unintended messages can paint the wrong picture. They did reply to my request but didn't want to come on air and discuss. As we all know creative interpretation means different things to different people.

Bottom line is this racist? We are in 2007 and some companies (not just Intel) appear at times to be insensitive or just ignorant to varying cultures with their ads? Here's what Intel had to say in defense "

Intel’s intent of our ad titled “Multiply Computing Performance and Maximize the Power of Your Employees” was to convey the performance capabilities of our processors through the visual metaphor of a sprinter. We have used the visual of sprinters in the past successfully. Unfortunately, our execution did not deliver our intended message and in fact proved to be insensitive and insulting."

You take a look and give us your comments below. Just in case you were like me and didn't initially get it. It is supposed to be an image of sprinters (you know) to show speed, it shows 6 of the same image to illustrate what Intel calls "Multiply Computing Performance". Perhaps, they should have looked at using a variety of male, female and runners from different cultures, that to me would better represent the fact that they are a GLOBAL company.

What do you think?
