Intel print ad: Race or Racist?

Just had this image forwarded to me. It's appeared on Gizmodo.com and Gawker.com & I'm sure a ton of other sites by now. It's an Intel print ad that has the blogsphere weighing in on all types of opinions. So much so that inteladfinal.jpgeven Intel posted an apologetic comment. Which is commendable! Most companies (i can name a few) that have been in this situation attempt to sweep it under the rug. I commend Intel for coming forward, being transparent about the incident and responding quickly. I even offered them a chance to come on my radio program(s) to discuss the challenges, the changes and how unintended messages can paint the wrong picture. Creative interpretation means different things to different people.

Bottom line is this racist?  We are in 2007 and some companies (not just Intel) appear at times to be insensitive or just ignorant to varying cultures with their ads? You take a look and give us your comments.

Just in case you were like me and didn't initially get it. It is supposed to be an image of sprinters (you know) to show speed times 6 of them to illustrate what Intel calls "Multiply Computing Performance". Perhaps, they should have looked at using a variety of male and female and runners from different cultures, that to me would better represent the fact that they are a GLOBAL company.
